New York requires state licensing for all mold assessors and mold remediators, and the rules are established under Article 32 of the New York State Labor Law, which sets mandatory training, licensing, and minimum work standards for anyone performing mold assessment or remediation. New York regulates mold work through three core components:

Training -- Contractors must complete approved mold assessment or remediation training before they can be licensed.
Licensing -- It is unlawful to perform or advertise mold assessment without a valid mold assessment license issued by the NY Department of Labor.
Minimum work standards -- Licensed professionals must follow state-mandated practices designed to prevent fraud and ensure safe, competent mold work.
